A Belated Bday Present....

The saying goes.... "better late than never"
Hopefully my little niece has a patient nature as I am a tad late in finishing these wee shorts!
Need to pop to the post office today before I procrastinate even more and another week passes - but I thought that I would show you all what I have been up to (sorry they are wrinkly - but a quick snap then wrap).

I started stamping/printing my own fabric during last year - a great project to do with older kids. Will endeavour to post a tutorial later, it is super-duper easy and fun!

The hearts have been hand printed, they have bled a little, but to be honest I quite like that, adds to the charm don't you think?

Love the little details on this pattern, like the pockets and the faux fly.
I hope Miss Two rocks them!!

De dah - wrapped and ready to post.

It appears that certain things never change....

Days have slipped into weeks, and weeks into months.....  I have been missing in action!  I must admit here, that I started many a diary when I was a little girl, and a not so little girl - and no matter how many times I swore that I would keep up to date with the happenings in my life....   I never did get past the first few entries!!!   And that pattern appears to have continued into adult life!

I take my hat off to all of you lovely bloggers out there who not only manage to keep up-to-date with your blogs... but keep them beautifully entertaining - thank you.

I solemnly swear, from this day forward, to keep my blog updated!

Anyhoos, not only have I been missing in action from the computer but my sewing machine has been sitting quietly in the corner collecting dust!
Instead I have been hanging out with the kids, spending lots of time with them.... and going through their drawers I realise that they have all grown so much and that they are in desperate need of new clothes.
The girls both need long sleeve tops and some winter skirts and dresses, and my little man needs tops, tops and something he can wear on his top! My hope is that in updating their wardrobes my inspiration in vintage children's patterns flows once more.......

The Joys of Vintage Patterns

As well as creating winter coats out of the iconic kiwi blanket...  I am seriously addicted to vintage patterns, and have visions of creating these sweet patterns of yesteryear in modern and contemporary fabric!

Have already started on the simplicity pattern.. view 2 (I think) but with long sleeves.
Will post a photo as soon as it is complete - it is my first attempt at zips! May be a long day....

Winter Coats #2

So I was so excited about this project that I dived straight in...  all guns blazing - so to speak!
Alas, it as too much for little old me!
The bulk of the seams, it was all to thick.. oh the woes!
In the end my first attempt ended like this...

Completely unpicked. I spent as much time unpicking as I did sewing!
But not to be beaten, I simply started again, with another blanket!
I took my time, trimmed the seams as I went and look....

Seriously proud of this attempt.. it all seemed so much easier the second time around.
So not one to leave it with just one.... here is attempt #3

I still have a bit of handstitching on the hems to complete and obviously the button-holes and buttons.
But the thing that is really scaring me is topstitching - ahh! I think that I may have to do a little research on how to do this.. and then sew on with confidence!

And now.. the lucky kiddiliwinks in their oh-so-nearly finished winter coats....

Pleased I have only basted sleeve hem, as I might make them a tad longer..
..but doesn't he look all snug?

Winter Coats

So the plan is this..............  see all of these old balnkets? Well I am going to turn these into lovely warm winter coats for my children! The added bonus of this is that they are 100% wool and made right here in good old New Zealand - they are the iconic Kiwi blanket, how cool will they look as winter coats? I hope!
