Winter Coats #2

So I was so excited about this project that I dived straight in...  all guns blazing - so to speak!
Alas, it as too much for little old me!
The bulk of the seams, it was all to thick.. oh the woes!
In the end my first attempt ended like this...

Completely unpicked. I spent as much time unpicking as I did sewing!
But not to be beaten, I simply started again, with another blanket!
I took my time, trimmed the seams as I went and look....

Seriously proud of this attempt.. it all seemed so much easier the second time around.
So not one to leave it with just one.... here is attempt #3

I still have a bit of handstitching on the hems to complete and obviously the button-holes and buttons.
But the thing that is really scaring me is topstitching - ahh! I think that I may have to do a little research on how to do this.. and then sew on with confidence!

And now.. the lucky kiddiliwinks in their oh-so-nearly finished winter coats....

Pleased I have only basted sleeve hem, as I might make them a tad longer..
..but doesn't he look all snug?

Winter Coats

So the plan is this..............  see all of these old balnkets? Well I am going to turn these into lovely warm winter coats for my children! The added bonus of this is that they are 100% wool and made right here in good old New Zealand - they are the iconic Kiwi blanket, how cool will they look as winter coats? I hope!
