Seeing as I am being very quiet on the sewing front lately, I thought that I would show you a few things that I have made - that aren't clothes! In fact when I look around the house, there a number of things that I have whipped up (well not really whipped!).
I quite like the fact that I can put my new found skills into creating gifts, not only for my children, but others as well. In fact, the whole reason I started sewing was to make a bird mobile for my new niece - now that was a fiddly little thing. Then I made a door-stop for my lovely mum. I see that door-stop every time I visit, and now that I know a little more about sewing now, I am a little embarrassed about the gift because I know that I haven't serged the seams and there is no reinforcement what-so-ever so the whole thing could spill out rice all over mum's floor!
But bless her cotton socks, she still insists on using it - it must be love!
Despite all of these gifts that have been near misses, there are a couple of things that I have made that have been a hit. Last year I made a kitchen table hut for my children. They were always pulling out blankets and rugs and draping them over the furniture.... I'm sure we ALL did that when we were kids, but goodness - why is it that they have no problem bringing them out.... but a big hassle to put them away!
So I came up with this....
...well actually, this is the one I sent to my two nieces and nephew in London for Christmas.
But my kids have one almost identical, and it provides hours of entertainment, and very easy to tidy away - especially for us mums.
Anyway, that's me for today. Though I have made my very first set of curtains...... and they are hanging with pride in our living room, and I promise next time I have my camera out I'll take a snap and so you all!
And I am in the process of making something for me - for the very first time!
